Bath Racecourse

With no watering facilities at the track, the firm ground will be a key factor in all races at the UK’s highest Flat racecourse, Bath. We have picked out three runners who will be loving the mini-heatwave that the country is going through at the moment.  There are six meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday with the action coming from Catterick, Naas, Leicester, Sandown and a dual card of turf and all-weather at Lingfield.

Lady Elysia should love conditions with three wins from six starts at the track, and all of those wins have come on quick ground. Two of those victories have come over this distance and both have been under this rider, Georgia Dobie. She is up to a mark of 62 which may not be enough to stop her given the perfect conditions she faces at her most successful venue.

The Robyn Brisland-trained Essgee Nics won a race on this track in these conditions last year so the firm ground should be in his favour. The eight-year-old’s ratings are officially the same on turf and all-weather but his best performances have come on the grass. Brisland boasts a level stakes profit of +£21.50 at Bath throughout his training career and this runner could enhance that figure further.

3.30 Bath

Sprint specialist Robert Cowell turns Clarendon House out again quickly after a recent runner-up finish at Newmarket five days ago. The Mehmas colt has a 100 per cent record at Bath, winning a novice race here by nine lengths on firm ground. His most recent run off top weight was understandably difficult but he arrives here in great heart running in a winnable contest.
