Sky Bet – Man Utd v Liverpool Offer

Sky Bet - Man Utd v Liverpool Offer

It’s Man Utd v Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday and you don’t want to miss this Sky Bet price boost! They’ve enhanced Mo Salah to score from evens to a rather nice 3/1. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £3.51 and here’s how…

Price boost

The maximum stake may vary per customer, but it’s likely to be £10.00.

For a walkthrough of how to lay price boosts, please see my price boosts guide.

We can calculate our lay stake using my Matched Betting Calculator…

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £13.79…

Sky Bet logo

Place £10.00 on ‘Mohamed Salah to score’ @ 4.00 = Potential profit of £30.00

Smarkets logo

Lay £13.79 on ‘Mohamed Salah’ (Anytime Goalscorer) @ 2.92 = Potential liability of £26.47

Let’s have a look at our profit/loss for the two potential outcomes…

Outcome Sky Bet Smarkets Profit/Loss
Salah scores + £30.00 – £26.47 £3.53 profit
Salah doesn’t score – £10.00 + £13.51 £3.51 profit

So, no matter the outcome, we’ll make a guaranteed profit of £3.51 on this Sky Bet price boost!

If you would prefer a risk-free shot at a higher profit, you can simply open up the ‘Advanced‘ section of the calculator and click the ‘Underlay‘ tab for a risk-free potential profit of £10.40.

Paddy Power – Money Back Offer (14:00 Newbury)

Paddy Power - Money Back Offer (14:00 Newbury)

There’s a big day of racing at Newbury on Saturday and you don’t want to miss this Paddy Power money back offer! Place a bet of up to £10.00 on the 14:00 Newbury and if our horse finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, Paddy Power will refund our stake as a free bet. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £7.39 and here’s how…

Key terms

  • We must place our bet between 12:00 on Friday 22nd October 2021 and 14:00 (race-off) on Saturday 23rd October 2021.
  • Offer applies to the win market and the win part of each way bets only.
  • If less than 6 runners take part, this offer will revert to money back if 2nd.
  • If our horse finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, Paddy Power will refund our stake as a free bet, up to £10.00.

Qualifying bet

If you’d like more information about qualifying bets and how they work, please see my qualifying bets guide.

It’s entirely up to you which horse you go for, but it would make sense to select a horse with fairly short odds in the hope of a 2nd, 3rd or 4th place finish.

At the time of writing, Dubai Poet is available at back odds of 6.50 (11/2) and lay odds of 6.80.

We can calculate our lay stakes using my Matched Betting Calculator

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £9.59…

Place £10.00 on Dubai Poet @ 6.50 = Potential profit of £55.00

Lay £9.59 on Dubai Poet @ 6.80 = Potential liability of £55.62

Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…

Outcome Paddy Power Exchange Free Bet Profit/Loss
Dubai Poet wins + £55.00 – £55.62 £0.62 loss
Dubai Poet finishes
2nd, 3rd or 4th
– £10.00 + £9.39 + £8.00 £7.39 profit
Any other outcome – £10.00 + £9.39 £0.61 loss

So, we’ll make a nice profit of £7.39 if Dubai Poet finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th or we’ll lose a maximum of £0.62 on any other outcome. Risking £0.62 to make a profit of £7.39 gives us effective odds of 12.92, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.

If eligible, free bets will be credited within 2 hours of the race ending and will be valid on any horse racing market for 7 days.

If you’re unsure how to convert your £10.00 free bet into £8.00 cash (80%), please see my free bets guide for a walkthrough of how it should be done.

* Dubai Poet finished outside the top 4, resulting in a loss of £0.61 on this Paddy Power offer. *

NFL Academy in London is Preparing to Finally Play Games

NFL Academy in London is Preparing to Finally Play Games

The NFL Academy which is based in London, England offers over 80 teens who are mostly from Great Britain the opportunity to train, study, and practice in hopes of earning a scholarship to play American football for a University in the United States. This program was launched approximately 2 years ago, and the NFL Academy provides these student athletes with top football coaches as well as state–of–the–art training facilities.

The Impact of the COVID – 19 Pandemic

Although this initiative of the National Football League is a very promising effort to expand globally, it faces several problems which have been mostly attributed to the COVID – 19 pandemic. The issues the NFL Academy faces is that there have not been real football games for the athletes in this program to participate in yet, and they aim to send these student athletes to visit some United States college football summer camp programs as well.

It is great news to hear that the NFL Academy in London has scheduled a game this Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 when they are set to play a real game against a freshman squad from the University of East Anglia. Besides the COVID – 19 pandemic it has also been a challenge for the NFL Academy to find willing opponents of the same age group in order to schedule a fair game for these aspiring student athletes to play in.

Other games have been planned versus other University teams, academies located in both Sweden and France, and some other games are planned for the NFL Academy to play American football against European national teams who have American football programs there. This is just another example of how the COVID – 19 pandemic has interfered with international activities all across the world. Hopefully, the popularity of this program and others like it can overcome the devastation of the COVID – 19 pandemic and any other challenges that it faces.

The Importance of Game Film

It is very important for games to be played in order for the student athletes in the NFL Academy to have game film to send in for players looking to switch to a High School in the United States of America or be granted a scholarship to a University in the U. S. A. Hopefully now that games are being scheduled for the NFL Academy there will be some solid game film for the coaches and admissions officials overseas to review so that they are familiar with these individuals looking to come to the United States and play American football at either the high school or collegiate level.

The NFL Expansion Plans

The National Football League has been focusing on expanding its reach internationally to Europe as well as other continents. The NFL Academy based in London, England is a huge example of this especially as the NFL has been hosting a couple of their regular season games in London every year for the past several years or so. The National Football League just featured two games over the past couple of weeks in London, England. They play at huge venues too such as Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as well.

In order to bring awareness of the NFL Academy the National Football League has sent ambassadors like the great Super Bowl Champion and Hall of Fame wide receiver, Jerry Rice, overseas for the opening of the academy’s gym/training facility. Operations such as that definitely help promote the outstanding sport of American football in Europe as Europe is absolutely dominated by soccer throughout their sports landscape.

The National Football League is looking to replicate the model of the NFL Academy located in London, England by creating a similar program in Germany once the NFL begins bringing some NFL regular season games to Germany in the near future. The National Football League has expressed interest in the past of possibly relocating an NFL franchise such as the Jacksonville Jaguars to London or another major European city with a strong NFL presence and following already. These are all great initiatives by the National Football League as they attempt to expand globally in the future, and bring the great game of American football to other regions of the world.

Media Statements

Because of COVID, we haven’t had the chance to play anybody,” coach Tony Allen explained last week. Allen goes on to say, “We try to get them as young as possible but they’re very green.”

“In the future and as early as next summer we’ll do those sorts of tours because actually what you need to do with these guys if they’re good enough, is they need that exposure out in the U.S.,” says the head of NFL Academy relations, Seni Majekodunmi. “Colleges need to see them; coaches need to see them. It’s not all about trying to get these guys to the NFL. Education reigns supreme. The number of kids who are going to make it out of this group is going to be really slim so they need to have that plan B.

“Coaches want to see those guys compete against American kids,” NFL Academy advocate Brandon Collier confirmed. “I know for sure there is a lot of talent that’s coming through (the academy). It’s like how anything works, it’s kind of who you know and the exposure. You need the trust of the college coaches. (Even without the games, a lot of players) love the NFL brand and rightfully so. It’s the most powerful football brand in the world.”

I devote everything I have to the game because this is my chance to not only play football at the next level but also get a university education,” NFL Academy tight end Peter Clarke stated. “I’m one of the first people in my family that will ever be able to go to university, so it’s a big thing for me.”

Despite slow start, Leicester are still a threat to the elite

Expectation is a funny thing, and Leicester City have fallen victim of it. Their Premier League title win stands as one of if not the greatest sporting upset in British history, after narrowly avoiding relegation the previous season. Five years on, with Brendan Rodgers building a talented young team filled with energetic and hungry players, success has begun to be taken for granted.

The thing is, though, nobody quite realises it. Money spent by Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, strengthening their already impressive squads, caused many to declare the top four a closed shop this season. Leicester have been battling for Champions League qualification for two seasons now, only falling short with a drop in form at the end of each campaign.

But their overall consistency, and the identity Rodgers has clearly instilled, has given the Foxes a kudos with pundits. Officially, they’d be punching above their weight if they were to challenge the elite again, but after a difficult start to the season both domestically and in the Europa League, questions began to land at Rodgers’ door.

Perhaps a reality check was needed. Leicester were in mid-table when Rodgers arrived two years ago, in desperate need for inspiration after the steady but rather dull reign under Claude Puel. Youri Tielemans, James Maddison, Ricardo Pereira and Timothy Castagne have driven the club on to new heights; despite never really troubling for the league title since, they are consistently in a better place now than they were in 2016; they’ve had to be smart, simply because they do not have the resources to threaten on brute financial force alone.

Bearing that in mind, it is unreasonable not to give them some leeway when things get tough. Lets not forget their greatest day since lifting the Premier League crown, at Wembley in May. They added the FA Cup to their collection; although Chelsea were favourites going in, it was hardly an earth-shattering event, seeing Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan lift the trophy after Tielemans scored the only goal.

Last Saturday might just have changed perceptions over where Leicester are now, though. A big part of an increasingly unfair narrative was that their ironclad recruitment had suddenly deserted them. Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard were budget signings from Southampton and they’ve struggled to make any sort of impact; Ademola Lookman, a loan signing from RB Leipzig, has been a rather unexpected success, but everything hinged on their big name deals; Boubakary Soumare, signed from reigning French champions Lille, and RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka, who scored at the weekend.

Leicester toppled a Manchester United side who can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right. But the manner of the victory, poetic for the Foxes in that it involved a below par performance from Harry Maguire, their most expensive sale and proof of concept for their business model, was emphatic; it showed them back at their best. They were fast, aggressive and hard to handle.

The best thing Rodgers has done is evolve the club. There has been no drastic changes; Schmeichel and Morgan, at least at the early stage of his reign, were vital cogs in the machine, while Jamie Vardy has always been their talisman. When Claudio Ranieri won the title, he did so with a 4-4-2 system and an aggressive counter-attacking style, led by Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

Rodgers has switched the emphasis completely to a possession-based approach, but has been clever enough to instil a counter press with a highly energetic midfield. N’Golo Kante was obviously hugely important under Ranieri, but Tielemans, Wilfried Ndidi and Soumare this season, really enforce the idea that Leicester have the best of both worlds, and the transition has been seamless.

Now could see the Foxes reach a different gear, which would ease the seemingly growing pressure on Rodgers. That shows just how much is now taken for granted outside the King Power Stadium.

Just as Arsenal and Tottenham, two clubs apparently named in the ‘big six’ who tried to instigate the breakaway European Super League six months ago, haven’t been able to maintain their push, Leicester will face difficulties. They should be allowed to do that without the sort of scrutiny which, in reality, is fabricated in order to create a story.

Rodgers has committed himself to Leicester again amid links to a post-takeover Newcastle United. Although he was seemingly as certain at Celtic before crossing the border, there is more building to do where he is; there is certainty, backing and collective belief in a project. These are things that lead to success and that is too precious to give up right now, especially for the relative uncertainty at St James’ Park. He has also distanced himself from Arsenal and Spurs in the past.

This is a club built in his image; his reputation is arguably better than at any other point in his career. There are going to be tough moments; recruitment cannot be perfect every time and momentum is a rare and delicate commodity. If Leicester finish eighth this season, it should be seen as a natural dip after years of pushing, but Saturday proved they are still a threat to the very top clubs, and that should be enough to let them get on with it.

It is difficult to believe we are 24 days into the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) but that is exactly where we are at. The 24th day of the series saw a trio of champions crowned, and three other events march towards awarding coveted gold bracelets.

Kevin Gerhart triumphed in Event #40: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. and collected $361,124 plus his third WSOP bracelet. Gerhart denied Marco Johnson what would have been his third career bracelet.

Carlos Chang took down Event #41: $2,500 Freezeout for $364,589 and went on to pose for the best winner’s photo of the 2021 WSOP, while Bradley Ruben joined the three-time WSOP champion club in Event #42: $1,500 Razz.

Tran looking To End 11-Year Bracelet Drought in the $10K PLO Championship

JC Tran
JC Tran hasn’t won a bracelet for 11 years

JC Tran last won a bracelet in 2009 when he was the last man standing in the $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. Now he has a chance of ending his 11-year bracelet drought in the same discipline but in the $10,000 championship edition.

Tran was one of 131 players to make it through Day 1 of Event #45: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship, from a starting field of 317. The man from Sacramento, California, crammed 348,500 chips into an overnight bag when the curtain came down on Day 1, which are enough chips for fifth-place on the Day 1 leaderboard.

Although Tran progressed with a healthy stack, he trails Chris Sandrock by some distance. Sandrock finished with 748,500 chips in his arsenal, 215,000 more than Arthur Morris on 533,500. Michael Kuney (472,500) and Travis Pearson (360,000) make up the top five.

Day 2 will be crammed full of talent, not least Sam Soverel (278,500), Toby Lewis (273,500), and Brandon Shack-Harris (212,000).

Lurking in the wings are two of online poker’s legends. Swedish duo Niklas Astedt (172,500) and Simon Mattsson (40,500) have made a rare live poker appearance, although the latter is one of the shortest stacks in the field.

Play resumes at 2:00 p.m. on October 24 and could see more players buy in because late registration remains open until the start of the day.

Presley Shakes Up Double Stack Day 1b Field

Terry Presley
Terry Presley

Terry Presley thoroughly enjoyed himself on Day 1b of Event #43: $1,000 Double Stack, bagging up not only the most chips of the second and final flight but of the entire tournament. Presley finished Day 1b armed with 828,000 chips and is hopeful of going all the way and netting some poker gold.

Presley was already one of the big stack when he won a huge pot during the 11th level of the flight. He called a shove with a flush draw and gutshot straight draw and got there against his opponents flopped two pair.

Some 562 players from the 2,054 starters punched their Day 2 tickets. Among them are a whole host of stellar names and well-known faces.

Four-time bracelet winner Asi Moshe (462,000) is in the current top five, while Daniel Lazrus (443,500) is yet another star looking for his third bracelet. Others safely through include Joao Simao (301,000), Niall Farrell (222,000), David Pham (205,000), Ari Engel (156,500), Barry Shulman (111,500), and former Main Event champion Martin Jacobson (106,500).

Day 2 shuffles up and deal at 10:00 a.m. on October 24 and sees 1,068 players return to their seats, and another ten levels are scheduled.

Hsiung Leads $3K 6-Max Limit Hold’em Final Ten

Kenny Hsiung
Kenny Hsiung

Day 2 of Event #44: $3,000 6-Handed Limit Hold’em saw the 78 returnees reduced to only ten over the course of ten levels of limit hold’em action. When the dust settled, Kenny Hsiung was the chip leader after bagging up 1,171,000 chips.

Hsiung won the full ring edition of this event in 2012 so already knows what is needed to become a WSOP champion. Hsiung hold the chip lead at the restart, but two of his opponents also have seven-figure stacks.

Second-placed Kevin Erikson has 1,139,000 chips while Ryan Hansen has 1,115,000 chips.

Each of the final ten players has reached this stage on merit and would be a worthy champion. Ray Henson, who finished Day 1 as the tournament’s chip leader, is the shortest stack, but still has a chance to add a WSOP bracelet to the five WSOP Circuit rings he possesses.

Play resumes at 2:00 p.m. on October 24 and continues until a champion is crowned.

Lucky 15 for top jockey who is +£84.50 at Aintree in the last five years

Lalor wins the Betway Novices

The week comes to a close with four meetings, all of which are jumps cards! The National Hunt season has truly begun and Wincanton, Galway, Wexford and Aintree are the venues on the docket. We’ll have horse racing tips for all four, including a NAP of the Day and accumulator tips.

One jockey who will relishing a return to Aintree on Sunday is the reigning champion, Harry Skelton. Riding on 101 occasions, he’s enjoyed 20 winners, equating to a huge level stakes profit of £84.50. He has several strong chances on Sunday and they could be backed in a Lucky 15; find all the details below.

The first of his big chances is the Captain Chaos, a bold front-runner who made all the running at Ascot two starts ago off a three-pound lower rating. He ran to a similar standard when fourth at Carlisle on his most recent start, where he wasn’t seen to best effect at such a stiff track.

He reappears at a venue that will play to his strengths and Skelton is likely to give him an attacking ride to try and steal the race. Although a prior run would have been ideal, he has won fresh in the past and has to be afforded maximum respect.

Perhaps the biggest chance of the day for Skelton, Allmankind bids to make a successful transition from novice company. He was hugely productive last season, winning the Grade 1 Henry VIII at Sandown in early December. That was followed up by a pair of Grade 2 victories at Warwick and Ayr, with a fair fourth in the Arkle in between.

He reappeared over hurdles at Chepstow earlier this month and given his poor record fresh, the fact he finished a rallying third was hugely positive. He remains totally unexposed over the larger obstacles and returned to a sharp track, with fitness under his belt, he should be very tough to beat.

There isn’t much form to go off in this maiden hurdle, but Lakota Warrior is a fascinating contender in familiar colours. He finished second in his sole point run at Lingstown back in 2020, shaping well on bumper debut at Warwick in December of the same year.

He couldn’t build on that at Kelso subsequently, which was disappointing, but he’s a scopey sort and he should really improve for an obstacle. Given the summer to grow and mature, he should be a different proposition here for top connections.

A consistent performer last season, Riggs scored at Uttoxeter before placing in three subsequent outings. That includes a clear second in a Grade 3 handicap at Sandown, where he made an impressive move through the pack to chase the leader between two and three out, before tiring late on.

That was still a good effort in such a competitive race and he was still tanking along when falling at Uttoxeter on his most recent start. He remains totally unexposed as he moves into this season and incoming rain certainly improves his chances. Dropped back to 2m 4f, he’s an obvious player.

California Mayors Back Sportsbooks, Cardrooms Fund Anti-Tribal Group

California sports betting

Posted on: October 23, 2021, 11:01h.

Last updated on: October 24, 2021, 12:14h.

This past week featured a lot of movement on initiatives that would legalize sports betting in California. And chances are good there will be some more movement in the week ahead as well.

California sports betting
Two proposed sports betting measures that could appear on the November 2022 ballot would allow people to make wagers online from anywhere in the state, including from the famous Hollywood sign. Tribal gaming leaders, who already have a retail sports betting measure on next year’s ballot, have raised concerns about the potentially competing measures. (Image: Thomas Wolf/Wikimedia Commons)

None of it will likely settle anything as the Golden State still looks at the possibility of having two or potentially three initiatives on the November 2022 general election ballot. All three would allow for sports betting in completely different ways.

But first, here’s a quick reset of where things stand. Earlier this year, the state verified that a petition drive backed by tribal gaming interests got enough signatures from registered voters to be included in next year’s election. That measure proposes retail sports betting only at tribal casinos and four thoroughbred racetracks. It also would allow tribal casinos to offer roulette and dice games.

Last Monday, the California state officials posted the summary for a measure backed by the state’s cardrooms and officials in some of the cities where those state-licensed facilities are located. The summary posting means supporters can start the signature-gathering process, and they have until April 18 to get 997,139 valid signatures from registered voters in order to get their measure on the ballot in just over a year.

The cardroom proposal would allow for both retail and online sports betting at their venues. It would also open it up to tribal casinos, racetracks, and professional sports franchises. It would also allow non-banked card games like blackjack and baccarat at the cardrooms.

Sports betting revenues would be taxed at 15 percent under the cardrooms’ proposal.

Third Sports Betting Petition May Get OK to Start Soon

While cardroom backers can start circulating their petitions, supporters of another measure that would allow statewide mobile sports betting await receiving the go-ahead from state officials.

That initiative is backed by Bally’s Interactive, Penn National/Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel, and WynnBET.

On Wednesday, the state provided a fiscal analysis of the amended measure. The six-page report from Gabriel Petek was not too dissimilar from what he wrote about the cardroom proposal a week earlier. The legalization of mobile betting would increase state revenues but potentially at the cost of some other tax revenues. Still, mobile sports betting is expected to bring hundreds of millions of dollars into the state’s coffers, while regulatory costs are expected to run in the mid tens of millions.

Under a plan that’s being proposed by several major current and aspiring sports betting operators, mobile operators would put up $100 million each for sports betting licenses in the country’s largest state.

The sportsbooks’ proposal would allow tribal gaming entities to also offer mobile sports betting with their licenses costing just $10 million. However, tribal casinos would only be allowed to offer sports betting under their casino name. It also calls for revenues to be taxed at 10 percent.

Mayors Backing Sportsbooks’ Proposal

Earlier this month, the backers of the sportsbooks’ measure filed an amended proposal that, among other things, would require the mobile operators to partner with a California-based tribe in order to operate in the state.

The proposal calls for the proceeds from sports betting to provide funding for services to combat homelessness and boost mental health services. A portion also would go toward economic development for tribal entities.  It’s not too different from what the cardrooms-backed proposed initiative would fund, which calls for funding to go for homelessness prevention, mental health services, public education, and affordable housing.

The proposed initiative backed by the sportsbooks received some big endorsements in the past week as the mayors of Fresno, Long Beach, Oakland, and Sacramento all came out in support of the plan. So, too, did the Regional Task Force on Homelessness for the San Diego area and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

Instead of leaving funding for homelessness and mental health services up to the whims of the economy, this initiative will create a stable and reliable funding source to tackle these immense challenges,” Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said in a statement.

The California Attorney General could deliver the title and summary for the sportsbooks’ initiative this week, meaning it would then be able to start gathering signatures to get on next year’s ballot. It also would need 997,139 signatures from registered voters to qualify.

California Tribes Still Have Concerns

As is the case with pretty much any referendum, there will be groups supporting measures and opposing others.

On Friday, according to data from the California Secretary of State’s office, a group called Taxpayers Against Special Interest Monopolies received more than $1 million each from two cardroom casinos and a third-party vendor in the last two weeks. The large contributions came from The Bicycle Hotel & Casino, The Commerce Casino and Blackstone Gaming. According to its LinkedIn page, Blackstone is a “rapidly growing third-party provider of proposition player services” in California.

The cardroom-sponsored initiative includes language that if it and any competing sports betting initiative appear on the same ballot, then the one receiving the most yes votes would be the one implemented by the state.

While the group behind the sportsbooks’ proposal has said it considers its proposal complementary to the tribal gaming measure, tribal leaders have expressed concerns about it. At the Global Gaming Expo earlier this month, tribal leaders noted that in previous years gaming measures have not succeeded when multiple ones have appeared on the same ballot. In addition, not all tribal leaders are on board with mobile sports betting.
