Royal Ascot punters will probably have to shelter from the rain on day four of the meeting as it’s absolutely bucketing it down.
Ascot Racecourse was in tip-top condition for the opening two days of the meeting thanks to a prolonged spell of sunshine in the United Kingdom and the 12,000 daily punters lapped up the warm weather.
But the heavens opened after the final race on Wednesday with 2.4mm of rain falling overnight to put some juice in the ground.
The going remained at Good to Firm for Gold Cup Day but 19mm of precipitation overnight into Friday has soaked the track changing the ground to Soft.
The rain is expected to stick around all day, with heavy showers forecast and highs of just 15C.
Saturday is the final day of racing and there shouldn’t be a need for brollies with light cloud and a gentle breeze forecast, with highs of 19C.
Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips
Paddy Power pundit Matt Chapman has gone through the card to bring you a top tip for every race on the fourth day of Royal Ascot 2021.
14:30: “Andrew Balding has already shown us what he can do with juveniles at Royal Ascot this week and it looks to me like SANDRINE is overpriced for this event.”
15:05: “I have a feeling we have not seen the best of YIBIR this term and I’ll keep the faith one more time as he goes up a little in trip.”
15:40: “JUMBY has plenty to find on ratings for Eve Johnson Houghton and Charlie Bishop but what he does bring is current progressive good form to the table.”
16:20: “SNOW LANTERN never settled at York last time but she’s surely miles better than that form suggests and has a fabulous draw to work from here.”
17:00: “BELIEF is interesting here for William Haggas and the King’s Stand hero Cieren Fallon. The daughter of Le Havre was a good third in a big field at Nottingham before scoring with ease at Thirsk last time.”
17:35: “TRITONIC should have each-way claims here for Ryan Moore and trainer Alan King. The useful hurdler was fourth in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket off this mark of 99 last season and the soft ground probably just caught him out close home that day.”
18:10: “A very hard race to sort out. BOOMSHALAA has to be the sexy horse as he could have gone in the Commonwealth Cup judged by his facile success at Windsor last time.”
