Let’s take a look at the Georgia vs Alabama SEC Championship odds and provide you with our betting pick.

Bulldogs Have Historic Defense

Georgia enters the SEC Championship Game against Alabama boasting the top-ranked defense in college football. The Bulldogs have allowed just 6.9 points per game through 12 contests, which is the lowest points per game average since Oklahoma (6.75) back in 1986. UGA shutout Georgia Tech 45-0 last time out.

Kirby Smart’s team is loaded with NFL-caliber talent on defense, which is a prime reason UGA has covered the spread eight times this season. Preseason All-American Jordan Davis is the heart of Georgia’s defensive line and a fringe Heisman contender, while Senior LB Channing Tindall leads the team in tackles (57).

Offensively, the Bulldogs are averaging 40.7 points and 442 yards per contest thanks to a balanced attack. QB Stetson Bennett has passed for 1,895 yards and 21 TDs with five interceptions, while RB’s Zamir White and James Cook have both rushed for at least 500 yards on the ground.

Crimson Tide in Rare Underdog Role

Alabama is listed as a betting underdog for the first time in 92 games against Georgia in the SEC Championship. The last time Nick Saban’s team wasn’t favored in a game was against UGA on October 3rd, 2015, where they beat the Bulldogs 38-10 outright as one-point underdogs.

It’s hard to argue with Alabama being underdogs against Georgia when you look at their 2021 season. The Crimson Tide suffered an upset loss to Texas A&M and escaped with narrow wins over LSU, Arkansas and Auburn. The Tide required a fourth-quarter comeback and overtime to beat the Tigers in Week 13.

Sophomore quarterback Bryce Young has passed for 3,901 yards and 40 TDs with four interceptions, while wide receivers John Metchie and Jameson Williams have reached topped 1,000 receiving yards. On the ground, Brian Robinson Jr. carries the load, rushing for 1,016 yards and 14 TDs.

Defensively, the Crimson Tide are allowing 20 points and 294 yards per contest. Alabama features one of the best defensive players in the country in outside linebacker Will Anderson. The senior has recorded double-digit tackles for loss in six straight games and leads the SEC with 14.5 sacks.

Georgia vs Alabama Pick & Prediction

Alabama has won four of their last five games as underdogs, but that trend is likely going to come to an end against a historically good Georgia defense. The Crimson Tide couldn’t score a point in three quarters against Auburn and now face a UGA defense that has given up just seven TDs all year.

Bryce Young can make big plays when he has time to throw in the pocket, but Alabama’s offensive line hasn’t done a good job protecting him. The Crimson Tide have allowed a whopping 36 sacks this season. UGA has one of the best pass rushes in the country, averaging 3.50 sacks per game.

Young was sacked seven times against Auburn, which means Georgia’s front seven is going to eat Saturday in Atlanta. Think back to Week 1 against Clemson when the Bulldogs rendered DJ Uiagalelei completely ineffective by pressuring him all game and sacking him seven times.

It’s tempting to Fade Georgia in this spot due to their recent history with Alabama, but this team is different. The Bulldogs have the offensive weapons to compliment their defense this year with two elite running backs and a dynamic receiving group. Star WR Georgia Pickens is also back from his ACL injury.

Georgia and Alabama had four common opponents this season in Florida, Auburn and Arkansas, and Tennessee. The Tide gave up 110 points in those games, while UGA gave up 34. Georgia’s defense has met every challenge they’ve faced this season, and it’ll clamp down on Bryce Young to lead to Bulldogs to a convincing SEC Championship victory.
