Jockey Xavier Perez celebrated the 1,000th earn of his job on Monday at Delaware Park, capturing the sixth race by a nose aboard the Jerry Robb-qualified In The Loop.
“It’s a major accomplishment for me,” Perez advised The Racing Biz. “It’s been ups and downs – a lot more ups than downs. I had a couple of negative a long time, but it was just a very little bump in the highway. I went through it, and I’m listed here. I am in this article.”
The 33-calendar year-previous native of Puerto Rico started his using job at Charles Town, and moved to Maryland in 2011. His profession-defining horse arrived in 2013 when he piloted Dance to Bristol to 7 consecutive victories, together with the G1 Ballerina at Saratoga.
Perez received just 22 races in both 2016 and 2017, but bounced back to double and then triple that full in the future two many years.
His 1,000 victories have appear from 8,134 mounts, with earnings approaching $26 million.
