Joni Jouhkimainen

Day 1A of the $5 million guaranteed MILLIONS Online Main Event took place over the weekend and saw 383 players take to the partypoker virtual felt. The curtain came down on the flight when only 57 players remained, and three Team partypoker players were among those Day 1A survivors.

Joni Jouhkimainen finished the night with 5,911,938 chips, enough for 26th place on the leaderboard. The Finnish star came close to winning a WSOP bracelet recently. He finished fifth in a $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha mixed event in Las Vegas. Jouhkimainen then finished second in both a €5,000 PLO tournament, and a €25,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller in the Czech Republic. Is this the tournament that gives our hero some redemption?

Matthew Staples of Team Online fame was one of Jouhkimainen’s teammates who also made it through the shark-infested Day 1A waters. Staples bagged up 5,539,866 chips, placing him 28th right now.

Brazilian sensation Yuri Dzivielevski was the third orange diamond to make it through to Day 2. Dzivielevski’s 3,104,045 stack put him in 41st place. The Brazilian, like Jouhkimainen, came close to winning a bracelet. A fourth and third-place finish in Las Vegas saw him narrowly miss out on adding to his two gold bracelets.
