NFL Tips – Week One

Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday, 6pm

This AFC West match up could well be the game of the week. Two excellent offences and teams that will know each other well. The Chiefs come in on the back of a short week after a loss to the Ravens, while the Chargers lost a close game with the Cowboys. Kansas City are strong favourites here but I like the way Los Angeles match up. They have been built with the Chiefs in mind. It is too close for me to call so I am going to sit on the fence and just pick a close game that could go either way.

Selections: Chargers 1-6, Chiefs 1-6

Atlanta Falcons @ New York Giants

Sunday, 6pm

The Falcons have been very disappointing, but there was some signs that Arthur Smith is working things out in Atlanta. Up against a Giants team that turns the ball over constantly, they could be in some very favourable positions. I wanted to stick my neck out and go for a bigger win but I still do not trust Atlanta to produce for the entire game. So take the Falcons to win a close one that they likely dominate.

Selections: Falcons 1-6

New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots

Sunday, 6pm

Mac Jones has received a lot of praise for his performances so far. He is yet to turn the ball over and has an excellent pass completion rate. But his unwillingness to pass downfield could cost New England here. He has constantly taken the safe option and that was made so clear when they ran a trick play, got a man open downfield and he threw underneath. The Saints are coming off of an embarrassing loss and Sean Payton will want to right things here. Expect some excellent defence and a much better offensive showing to get things done in New England.

Selections: Saints 1-6

Seattle Seahawks @ Minnesota Vikings

Sunday, 9:25pm

The Seahawks were dominant against the Titans for three quarters but somehow let a great opportunity slip. They will not make the same mistakes here. The Vikings defence has improved but when Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett get going they are almost impossible to stop. Seattle are slight favourites here but the total is a huge line so people are expecting points. I would back Wilson over Kirk Cousins and the Vikings in any type of shootout and the Seahawks can make up for last Sunday’s slip up.

Selections: Seahawks 7-12,13-18

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Los Angeles Rams

Sunday, 9:25pm

The Buccaneers look even better than when they won the Super Bowl in February. Tom Brady looks as good as ever, Rob Gronkowski appears to be as healthy as he has been in five years and the wide receiver group of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown is almost impossible to stop. The Rams are an excellent team and may well prove to be the biggest threat to the Bucs in the NFC, but the match up does not favour them. Brady has made a career of picking apart defences like the Rams and while Matt Stafford has improved things massively for the offence, it just is not quite enough.

Selections: Buccaneers 1-6, 7-12

Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers

Monday, 1:20am

The Packers bounced back from a terrible showing in their opening game, but the 49ers will offer a very different test. If, and it is a big if, these offences show up then this has the potential to be an excellent game. There is talent in both offences here. Jimmy Garoppolo has once again shown his worth, even if he is not appreciated. But the big difference in this one is on the defensive side of the ball. San Francisco should be able to disrupt their opponents a lot more than the other way around. Many will pick Green Bay here but I do not trust them after the week one performance.

Selections: 49ers 7-12

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys

Tuesday, 1:15am

This could go a long way to deciding the NFC East, but for me there is only one winner. The Dallas offence is superb and can match up with anybody in the league. Dak Prescott has not missed a beat since returning from injury and with the weapons at his disposal it is very much a case of pick your poison. I really do struggle to see Jalen Hurts as the future of the Eagles, despite some flashes. The Cowboys defence has been a lot better than expected and has really found a way to turn the ball over. If they can do so again here then things could get out of hand.

Selections: Cowboys 7-12,13-18,19-24
