Sandown - Nicky Henderson

You can get the low-down on all of Nicky Henderson’s runners for the upcoming campaign in Racing Post’s Stable Tour. It’s available for Racing Post Members’ Club subscribers in full on the website and will prove an invaluable guide for this season.

By Henderson’s lofty standards, last season wasn’t a strong campaign. That is likely to be left as a distant memory, however, as the master of Seven Barrows has an arsenal of exciting novices to go to war with in 2021/22. Speaking to Racing Post, for their Stable Tours series, he outlined his thoughts on his entire string. There was one comment, however, which stood out above them all.

“He needed time but will be worth it”

We’ve seen him on the racecourse just once, but Wiseguy could be a special prospect. A son of Fame And Glory, he cost €90,000 at the Derby sales and really caught the eye on his Doncaster debut. Pushed along a fair way from home, he kept on powerfully and prevailed by a nose. That was just a minor event, but the form has worked out well subsequently.

The second, fourth, seventh, ninth and tenth-placed horses have all scored since in either a bumper or hurdling race, which gives plenty of credence to the theory that he could be very smart. Henderson echoed those comments when speaking to Racing Post for their Stable Tour, proving quite bullish in his claims about this five-year-old.

Speaking to Racing Post’s James Burn, he said: “He needed time but will be worth it. He won his bumper in smooth fashion so is all set for novice hurdling, and I’ll be dismayed if that isn’t lucrative for him.

Where can we see him?

The big question is, of course, where next for this potential star? Given Henderson’s comments, the Supreme could well be on his radar as an end game. This year’s novice division looks electric, with the likes of Sir Gerhard, Jonbon and Kilcruit at the head of affairs. He’ll need to be special to beat the likes of those, but that couldn’t be discounted.

He’s currently priced up at 33-1 with bet365 for the Supreme and if he wins his hurdling debut with authority, that price could well halve.
