The rush to get customers back is causing casinos to try new options outdoors. Some are new, while others are tried and true traditions coming back. Let’s take a look at these Outdoor Food and Music Options at New England’s Casinos.
Thinking Outside the Brick-and-Mortar Box
Encore Boston Harbor Offers Three New Events
Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, Massachusetts, will be trying a new lineup of outdoor summer activities. The Outdoor Summer Series features live music every Thursday, including reggae, pop, rock, and other genres of music. The event is free with a reservation.
Encore Boston Harbor is also partnering with Night Shift Brewing. Every Thursday through Sunday, they will operate an outdoor beer garden. Guests can enjoy lawn games and small bites on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Guests to the beer garden must be 21 years or older.
Finally, on July 11, 18, and 25, Encore will host a garden champagne brunch. All-you-can-eat buffet stations, a la carte menu, and mimosas will be offered. Brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include local DJs and lawn games. Brunch starts at $55 per person.
Plainridge Looks To Outdoors for Gambling Break
Plainridge Park Casino plans to open up some space for you for those who need a breather from slots and horses. The state’s gaming commission approved the slot parlor and race track’s plans for an outdoor space where patrons can enjoy Outdoor Food and Music Options — but gambling will still be done inside.
The commission’s 4-0 approval of Plainridge’s request allows it to expand the gaming establishment’s boundary. The commission also renewed Plainridge’s alcoholic beverage licenses. So, the area located near the track grandstand will have some hardscaping and fire pits that will allow it to operate through early fall. North Grounsell, general manager of Plainridge, said, “There will be plenty of room to come out and have a good time.”
The casino hopes to have the new facility, which will accommodate over 900 people, open before the end of June. Its hours will be 4 p.m. to 10 to 10:30 p.m. The amenities will include some outdoor games and a rotation of food trucks on weekends, and live music on Saturday evenings when racing is done. In addition, they are partnering with 67 Degrees, a local microbrewery.
MGM Springfield Brings Back Free Music Fridays
Fridays June 4th through September 3rd, 7:30 pm-9:00 pm. Enjoy free live outdoor music at the MGM Springfield Plaza featuring your favorite local bands.
“MGM Springfield is known for its diverse outdoor programming with a focus on entertaining guests and bringing the community together,” said Chris Kelley, MGM Springfield’s President & COO. “We look forward to welcoming guests, as well as members of the Springfield community, every weekend this summer with an evening of music and fun. The revitalization of the downtown community continues to be a priority for our team, and we can’t wait to host guests on The Plaza for the first time in more than a year.”
Mohegan Sun Brings Back Party on the Patio

Finally, Foxwoods offers the HighFlyer Zipline through the woods of southeastern CT. It starts from the 330-foot-tall Fox Tower, 32 stories up. Then, the HighFlyer Zipline launches you along a 3,750 foot-long thrill ride that glides above the forest at 60-mile per hour.
