Below you can find the latest Shots On Target Acca selections:

Shots On Target Accumulator – 18th September

15:00 – Mo Salah to have Two or more shots on target in Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Reason for Tip: Mo Salah is having a fantastic first part of the season. He has scored already 3 goals and he has an average of 2 shots on target per game. In a match that Liverpool are likely to dominate, we expect him to keep up or improve the SOT average.

17:30 – Danny Ings to have Two or more shots on target in Aston Villa vs Everton

Reason for Tip: This is a great opportunity for Villa to get back on track after a difficult start of the season. Danny Ings is averaging 0.8 shots on targets so far and in a match where the Villans will be on the front foot, we expect him to be protagonist and deliver at least two shots on goal.

What Is A Shots On Target Bet?

More and more punters are betting on how many ‘shots on target’ a player will do during a match. For instance, you can bet on Timo Werner to have 2+ shots on target during a game. You can also bet that he will have more or less shots on goal. Obviously, the odds are higher, the higher is the shots number you are betting on. You can also bet on how many shots on target a full team will have. For instance, you can bet how many shots Chelsea will have against Liverpool, on how many shots on goals Liverpool will have against Chelsea, or the combined number.

What Is Classed As A Shot On Target Or Shot On Goal?

‘Shots on target’ is a quite tricky betting market, and many punters are confused when they look at what qualifies for a shot on target, or shot on goal. A shot on target or shot on goal is a shot going towards the net which is either saved by the goalkeeper or the last man. If the shot hit the woodwork it doesn’t count. All the shots that are blocked by a player which is not the last man don’t count either. Similarly, all the shots that have happened after an official has stopped play will not count.

What Are Good Odds For A Shots On Goal Bet?

Shot on target or shot on goal are one of the most dynamic football betting markets, especially if in play. The odds do reflect how strong a team is. For instance, if Arsenal are facing Lincoln City you can expect that the Lincoln players will have higher odds as bookmakers do not expect them to have many shots on target. The same applies to players of the different teams. Said that some players might be more prone to deliver higher shots on targets even if they do feature in underdogs sides. In those cases, you will find their odds to be lower. We always compare for you the odds for the shots on target bets we suggest. You will find the bookmaker that has the best odds already selected so you don’t have to worry about wasting your time comparing odds. Always remember to gamble responsibly and visit the bottom of the page for more information about this critical topic.

What Are The Rules For A Shot On Target?

If you are used to placing bets on most popular markets, you will find that the rules around the shots on target are pretty complicated at first. For bookmakers and statistical organisations, the shot on target is not defined as only hitting the ball towards the goal or target. For instance, OPTA defined a shot on target as a ‘clear attempt to score that would have gone into the net but was instead saved by the goalkeeper or by a player who was the last man with the goalkeeper who had no chance of avoiding the goal’.

Let’s visualise better with one example: for instance if Lionel Messi shoots, and the shot was initially going off target, but it is deflected into the goal, Messi will not be assigned a shot on target. Similarly, shots blocked by other players who are not the last man in the defence are not classified as shots on target. So if Messi shoots from range and the shot is blocked by a midfielder who had a defender behind him, he will not be assigned a shot on target. A similar rule also involves the woodwork. If a player hit the woodwork and goes out, it does not count as a shot on target. However, if the shot hit the woodwork but than goes in the goal, it is counted as a shot on target.

What Drives Shots on Target?

There are two main things to look at when betting on shots on target: talent and systems. Looking at the data, we can clearly see that teams with more talented players produce, on average, more Shots on Target. If we take, for instance, Manchester City, we can see that they do generate lots more SOTs compared with teams that are fighting to avoid relegation. The logical explanation for this is that stronger sides create more goals opportunities than sides that spend most of their games worrying about defending.

Is hitting the crossbar or post counted as shot on target?

As mentioned above, this market is becoming one of the most popular amongst punters, yet it is one of the most complicated to understand. Most bookmakers do define a shot on target as an intentional shot that goes into the net, or that would have gone into the net if the keeper or last defender did not stop it. This means that shots that either hit the post or the crossbar do not count as a shot on target, as they do not meet the above criteria. Additionally, a shot that is blocked by any defender that is not the last one also does not count, and this is because it is impossible to say if that would have reached the net.
